The APBA Challenge Cup, aka, APBA Gold Cup is the oldest and one of the most prestigious motorsports trophies in the world. Hydroplane racing became a tradition in Detroit when designer Christopher Columbus Smith (of the Chris Craft boat company) built a Detroit-based boat that would crack the 60 miles per hour speed barrier, capturing the Gold Cup in 1915. Through the decades builders, drivers, fans and sponsors have continued to bring the best, to the greatest course in the world; the Detroit River. On FREE Friday, July 8, 2011, Detroit EM News reporters Adrianne Reynolds and Bill Arrington captured interviews with Mark Evans - Formula Powerboat driver, Martin Sanborn, P1 - a new Super Stock Series, Bill Schumacher, Owner of U-88 Degree and Master Sgt. William Brown of the Air National Guard . Photos: M. Collins Master Sgt. William Brown, U. S. Armed Forces - Title Series Sponsor - APBA 2011 Gold Cup - Visit: www.goang.com
